It has been my privilege and joy to have worked with students for over 35 years. Both as a classroom teacher and as an administrator I have worked with children from Kindergarten through to grade 12. I have a degree in Physical Education and Masters Degree in Education Administration. Prior to coming to Cairo, I taught in a number of communities in British Columbia. See if you can find Sparwood, Lillooet or Chilliwack on a map. During my leisure time, I enjoy the game of golf, reading and travelling. I have developed a real love for biking the roads of Maadi and look forward to continuing this adventure. As I enter my third year at BCCIS, I am excited about the new year and working with both the students, the staff and the parents.

Mr. Thomas Tauts
Vice Principal, Math and Physics
Hello. My name is Thomas Tauts. I was born in Estonia . I have lived for years in each of the three big cities in Canada : Toronto , Montreal and Vancouver . I graduated from University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education, and I went to York University for an M.A. in Mathematics for Teachers to gain new insight into Mathematics. I have been teaching Mathematics for five years, three in China and two in Canada . I love the World and I am excited to be here in Egypt. As an educator I have a responsibility to lead by example and provide students with meaningful learning opportunities. My goal is to create an environment with high academic standards, where all students feel respected and motivated to learn. I want my students to feel free to share ideas and be active and primary participants in their own learning. I think that everybody has a personal way of learning, and I strive to provide choices in my classroom that will facilitate the individual learning process. My hope is that students will gain subject matter proficiency and will become more cognizant and caring members of the community around them. I believe that all students are capable of success, and that learning is a journey that does not end in school, but accompanies us throughout our lives. In knowledge and understanding we gain our freedom.

Hello. My name is Jillian Folk. I was born and raised in the city of Vernon, in the Okanagan Valley, found in the beautiful interior of British Columbia. I am hoping the fact that I used to work for B.C. Parks, including a park in the pocket desert of Osoyoos, will help me adapt to the hot dry climate of Egypt faster than my coastal colleagues. Addicted to learning, I have about eight years of post secondary education under my belt including a diploma in Wildland Recreation and a B.A in History /English. My love of travel has lead me to backpack around Europe and drive across Canada (in my rusty little 1983 Chevy Cavalier Wagon). After completing my Education Degree, I took a teaching position at a Canadian School in China, which allowed me to travel around South East Asia and India. I am very excited to be joining the BCCIS community in fascinating Egypt!
